AFIR 2027 – Are Your Chargers Ready?
On 1 January 2027, the EU’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) becomes mandatory for all newly installed charging points across Europe
Relevant Documents: EN ISO 15118-20:2022 & ISO 15118-20:2022/Amd 1:2026
Here’s what many overlook: a charger ordered today may not go live for another 6 months. That means every device purchased now needs to be AFIR-compliant already, not just at the point of installation, but from the moment it ships.
We help manufacturers, importers, and operators navigate exactly this, from technical compliance to documentation and certification.
From 1 January 2027, newly installed charging points must meet the following requirements:
- Support for EN ISO 15118-2:2016
- Support for EN ISO 15118-20:2022
- Support for ISO 15118-20 Amendment 1
- Compatibility with Plug & Charge
- Support for smart charging
- Support for Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)
- Support for Vehicle-to-Home (V2H)
- Support for Vehicle-to-Building (V2B)
- Support for Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), where supported by the vehicle and charger
- Interoperability with different electric vehicles and charging systems
- Secure communication and cybersecurity
- Digital connectivity and remote management
- Ad-hoc charging and payment options
- Transparent and compliant pricing information
- Compliance with applicable requirements for public and private charging points
- Support for the required charging cables and connectors
- Availability of the necessary conformity and interoperability test results
Not sure if your product qualifies? Let's find out together.
